Cheltenham Gets Ready To Showcase The National Hunt Season

Cheltenham racecourse opens its doors for the new National Hunt season tomorrow on the first of two days at The Showcase, where top horses, trainers and jockeys will be back at the world famous track to compete in the first big jumps meeting of the new season. The Showcase will also give racegoers the opportunity to see how the new stand is progressing as the super refurbishment of the course is now well underway, ready to be completed in time for the Festival next year.

On Saturday we will see the winner.co.uk Handicap Chase as well as the winner.co.uk Trophy, both with huge prize pots of £50,000. Across both days, the total amount of prize money will be £296,000, so there’s certainly a lot up for grabs.

A number of Irish trainers will take the trip over to Cheltenham, including Henry De Bromhead and Gordon Elliott, which really signifies just how well regarded the meeting is within the world of National Hunt. Elliott has the unbeaten hurdler Casual Approach running in the colours of Niall Earls and with Richard Johnson on the saddle, the Irish fans could well have something to smile about as they cheer on Casual Approach. De Bromhead though will also fancy his chances with Exxaro who seems to improve upon every race and his trainer feels that the step up has done the horse some good.

Top jockeys like Sam Twiston-Davies, Barry Geraghty and Aidan Coleman, to name a few, will be present across the meeting, as well as world class trainers Nicky Henderson and Paul Nicholls, which is sure to bring in a bumper crowd to welcome National Hunt back to the spiritual home of jumps racing.
