Cheltenham Festival Blog: Day 4

It's the final day of the festival and this has been a very special week so far, with wins from ANNIE POWER and SPRINTRE SACRE, that will be remembered for many years to come and Gold Cup Day should prove to be just as exciting.

Yesterday, VALSEUR LIDO ran great, but the pace of the race went a little too early for him. He jumped well though,  and he did well to come second to VAUTOUR - it's a pity we didn't get to see him in the Gold Cup.

I have three runners today and FETHARD PLAYER in the County Handicap Hurdle is a real handicapper, will love Cheltenham and has a great each way chance.

BALCO DES FLOS was very good in his bumpers last year, but jumped terribly in his first run over hurdles. Saying that, he did improve his jumping to win a Maiden Hurdle at Punchestown. He can run a great race today has a great chance - I think he is a great horse for the future.

I ride CHILDERNS LIST in the Martin Pipe, who has been running consistently in his Handicaps and I think the ground and the pace today will suit him better. He'll be travelling the best at the second or third last and if we can get him to finish out his race, he'll be bang there.

The main race of the day is the Gold Cup and I always thought Ruby would choose DJAKADAM and that Bryan would go for DON COSSACK. With nine runners, I think the race is DON COSSACK's to lose. He's the highest rated chaser and he has the highest ability. I'd be worried about DJAKADAM and I think CUE CARD could be there to pick up the pieces. DON POLI also has a great chance, but you just don't know what he's going to be like on the day.
