Post Cheltenham Thoughts

Cheltenham went as well as could for me without having a winner

I rode FETHARD PLAYER in the Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle, He put in a cracker for me and ran a big race to finish 2nd to the Harry Skelton trained SUPERB STORY. He is a 9yo but he hasn’t had too many miles to him yet. He could be a progressive type and I imagine he will head to Aintree or Punchestown next.

VALSUER LIDO ran a good race where we finished second to Vautour, who is very special and any horse would have found him hard to beat. He jumped well but I’d say he wanted a bit further and could well be a Grand National horse in time.

I really enjoyed seeing ANNIE POWER become the first mare in 22 years to win the Champion Hurdle, THISTLECRACK is a horse which is a class apart and won very well in the World Hurdle and it was great to see SPRINTER SACRE rolling back the years to win the Champion Chase. A moment all of us will find hard to forget.

The Irish National is next Monday at Fairyhouse where I will hopefully be getting a ride for Gigginstown or Willie Mullins. I will possibly ride SUB LIEUTENANT who I won on last time out at Naas earlier this month and he is one who could run a big race here. I will hopefully also be riding in the Novice’s Hurdle for Willie Mullins too.

There have been no plans made for Aintree as of yet
