I rode SOME PLAN at Cheltenham last week in the Arkle Trophy Trial Novices’ Chase and it was obviously very disappointing falling at the second last. Everything was going to plan before hand, as he was going a good even gallop and jumped great the full way. I filled him up coming down the hill, but he was a bit tight at the second last and his back end came up too high and buckled on the way down.
I am at Punchestown on both days this weekend. Tomorrow I ride SKEAPING and CASTLEHUME who are two horses I know little about. Both are trained by Gordon Elliott so we’ll be hoping both horses put in good performances and hopefully by the end of the day Gordon will have a clearer idea of which direction they’ll go in moving forwards.
On Sunday I ride ATTRIBUTION in the 1.10pm Novice Chase. I have come second on him before and he’s a decent enough horse, but unless we improve a lot we shouldn’t beat IDENTITY THIEF or ORDINARY WORLD. MONLAEE is a lovely horse who I’ll be riding in the Maiden Hurdle at 2.50pm. He’s come second in two bumpers, is well schooled and ready for the run. I’d say he’s my best ride this weekend. In the 3.25pm Handicap Hurdle I will be on LASOSCAR who I have ridden to victory in two of the last three times he has run and we probably found where we are with him in the last run. He has been freshened up, so he should go well again at the weekend.
The big race at Punchestown at the weekend is the Morgiana Hurdle which I won last year with NICHOLS CANYON who is very good from the front and will take a lot of beating. I’ll be riding SIMENON who won two races in the summer and if he comes back to his old self this weekend I think he’ll be there to pick up the pieces.
Tomorrows Betfair Chase at Haydock is also worth a mention, as there are some excellent horses running, including King George winners CUE CARD and SILVINIACO CONTI. However, I think last year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup winner CONEYGREE should win this one. He’s not run in a while, but I think the Bradstocks will have him good and fit.
