Punchestown Festival Blog: Day 5

I Wouldn’t Swap KAYF SUPREME For Anyone Else In Today’s 5pm Handicap Chase

SAMBREMONT ran OK yesterday and could have been better suited to going left handed and  he may be a horse that would enjoy something like the Kerry National. FETHARD PLAYER ran a cracker, picking up some great prize money. He’s been a great horse all season and during the summer he might try his hand at chasing, but if that doesn’t work out, I think he’ll be a great ride in the Galway Hurdle. OO SEVEN is a lovely horse and ran a cracker in yesterday’s Champion Novice Hurdle. As far as my assumptions go, in my opinion I think he’ll be bang there in the JLT next year. I was unseated on ALAMEIN who was running a good race but we got a bit tight for room on the corner. Myself and the horse are both fine and he’ll probably do a few Novice Chases in the summer.

My first ride on the final day of this year’s Punchestown Festival is SIZING COAL , who is a horse who is hot and cold, but there’s no one better to have him ready for a 3m6f Handicap Chase than Jim Dreaper and if he is at his best, he’ll have a great chance.

I’ll be on AURORE D’ESTRUVAL in the Mares Champion Hurdle at 3.50, who has been disappointing all season, but if she comes back to her best, she has a great chance.

KAYF SUPREME is another horse trained by Jim Dreaper and I think we have a very good chance today. He won impressively the last day, he can be sticky in his jumping early on, but if we can get into a good rhythm we have a great chance. He is a great weight and I wouldn’t swap him for anyone in the race.

My final ride of the festival is JIMMY TWO TIMES who won nicely the last day at Downpatrick and I think he’s being massively overlooked in today’s race. Declan Lavery would usually be riding him, but can’t make the weight and says he has a great chance and can come into good form today.

On a personal level, this year’s festival has been a varied one for me where I’ve ridden plenty of nice horses, picking up three 2nd places, two third places and two fourth places, and I’m hoping I can get a win on the final day.

DOUVAN has definitely been the highlight of the Festival for me and I think he’s the best horse we’ve seen. VROUM VROUM MAG was also very good and is an incredible mare who can go from winning 2m3f Chases to winning a 2 mile Champion Hurdle. I think she’s the most versatile horse we’ll ever see. It’s been a great year for fillies, with GERS GIRL also wining yesterday and I think she’s could well be the next QUEVEGA.
