The Poule d'Essai des Poulains is a Group 1 flat horse race open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres and is France's equivalent of the 2,000 Guineas.
This race, as well as the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (the race for Fillies) was originally run in 1883. Before this date, there was only one race which both fillies and colts could compete in. The Poule d'Essai des Poulains was run for the first time at the Champ de Mars racecourse in 1840, and moved to Longchamp in 1857.
